Yesterday night was our interns recognition ceremony for their graduation of the 10 week program. Everyone got a chance to show off what they accomplished throughout the summer at their individual sites. Each intern received a completion document and personalized photo frame. Many family members, mentors, and site employees came out to support the students.
On our last group Friday outing all the interns had a chance to learn about the history of the Palace Theater and Finwood Estates. We were also informed of some of the rumors and things people have spotted at these places that make them “haunted.” Overall it was a fun way to end our last summer session.
Above are pictures from Finwood estates and attached below are pictures from the Palace.
This Friday our interns completed their summer project; a mural of the Giving Tree at Blessing House. It turned out great, they all had a lot of fun, and got covered in a lot of paint.
Our Leadership Lorain County intern Caleigh Lavish attended our annual golf outing yesterday at Oberlin Golf club to help with the event. It was a complete success, we raised a lot of money, and had so much fun doing it. Pictured below is our gold outing board that made the event possible.
Pictured above is all out interns with the volunteers for networking night. Each intern got a chance to do three mock interviews with professionals in the area. We had professionals come from many scopes including hospitals, non-profit, large corporations, metro parks, law, and many more. Pictured below are all our wonderful volunteers who took time out of their day to support us.
Overall it was a wonderful opportunity and our interns loved networking with professions, having resumes critiqued, and learning how to better interview. The professionals were also very impressed with this group and remarked “I have no worry about the future if you are all an example of your generation!”
Our flapjack fundraiser was quite a success. Everyone had a lot of fun and ate a lot of pancakes. All the proceeds go directly back to the program so thank you to anyone who came out to support!
This Friday our interns got the chance to visit the Lorain County Jail. We got to speak with the sheriff, view a video of what they do, tour all levels up to maximum security prisoners, view the canines in action finding drugs and attacking criminals (AND PET THEM), learn about bomb squad and try on the gear, and got inside both the bomb squad car and S.W.A.T. car. Overall it was an amazing visit!
