Lorain County Sheriff’s Office
On Friday we visited none other than the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office where we were shown around by Lt. Jim Gordon (LLC Signature Class of ’16). Not only were we given a tour, but we got the special privilege of meeting Maggie and Annie- Two important members of the K9 unit!

Afterwards Lt. Ashdown showed us the LC Sheriff’s bomb squad and S.W.A.T. vehicles!
It was a great afternoon. A special thanks to Lt. Gordon and Lt. Ashdown for showing us around!
Common Ground Center
On Friday the LLCIP 2016 interns reached new heights as we took on the Common Ground Center high ropes course! We encouraged each other through each challenge as former intern Lydia and her team pushed us so expand our comfort zones. Everyone did fantastic, and can certainly take on whatever challenge comes their way!
Common Ground Center is a nonprofit organization that helps people realize their potential through conscious living. For more information check out http://www.commongroundcenter.org
Lorain Historical Society
For our first team meeting today we made our way out to Lorain to visit the Carnegie Center, which is part of the Lorain Historical Society. We were given a tour of the building and learned all sorts of fun facts about Lorain- It was a hoppin’ place in its day! With three theaters, restaurants, and shops you could find anything you needed right there.
After the tour, Carnegie Center interns Amy (LLCIP 2105) and Alex told us about the exciting project they’re working on for the Lorain International Festival. This year celebrates 50 years of the International Festival, so they’re putting together an extra-special exhibit to display at this fun event that celebrates Lorain’s culturally-rich history. It will include a kid’s corner, festival history, and opportunities to share you or your family’s memories of Lorain. You can check it out at the festival this year, June 24-26!

Next week’s meeting will be held at Common Ground Center on June 10, 2016.
Last Friday we met at Main Street Amherst where we kicked off this year’s internship program by listening to speaker Bob Campana and eating lunch together at the local Hot Dog Heaven before playing a trivia game to test their knowledge of Lorain County. We had a great time!
With week one drawing to a close we are now looking forward to our first team meeting on Friday, June 3rd where we will be heading over to Lorain Historical Society to learn about the Carnegie House and it’s role in Lorain County.
